LCGC help to turn on Regent St Christmas Lights!
Monday 16 Nov 2009
November 3 2009 marked the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the West End, with the Christmas lights switch-on taking place right across the board.  An audience of 50,000 turned up as the London Community Gospel Choir also joined in on the celebrations!

In the first ever joint switch-on event, Regent Street and Oxford Street illuminated the city on the same day, at the same time, with a little help from the Hollywood ‘A’ list…

With Disney’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ premiering in Leicester Square later on in the evening, the film’s stars stopped by to flick those famous switches, with Jim Carrey at Oxford Street and Colin Firth for Regent Street respectively.

On hand to help Colin work the crowds into a festive frenzy were London born indie rock band The Noisettes, Australian singer/songwriter Daniel Merriweather, West End stage favourite Jodie Prenger of ‘Oliver’ fame, and The London Community Gospel Choir!

Not that the crowd needed any help however, with the hundreds that turned out for the event clearly more than ready to embrace the spirit of Christmas. The switching-on of the Christmas lights at Regent Street has long been a highlight on the calendar, with big names such as Will Young, Anthony Hopkins and Kylie Minogue lighting up the street in previous years.

Travis Cole, LCGC's Choir Director on the evening said "We always love being at the Regent Street Christmas Light event, and tonight was no exception! The audience really entered into the gospel edge that we brought to the proceedings!"
