The Royal British Legion hosted its annual Silence in the Square event in Trafalgar Square. Hundreds gathered under cloudy skies to remember the men and women who lost their lives fighting in the two World Wars. The public were also invited to throw poppy petals into the Trafalgar Square fountain.

A musical performance by The London Community Gospel Choir lifted the spirits of many even during such a sombre day. There were also performances by folk artist Seth Lakeman, and the all-male Overtones group. Readings and poems by actress Miranda Raison and actor Bernard Cribyn really brought home the importance of marking remembrance.
